& Hair Pieces by Francis Prachthauser
Handmade in Bronze
In 1980, I wandered
into the studio of the metal artist David Spurlock on
the Jersey Shore and spent two summer vacations watching
him work. Finally in 1982 he decided I might as well do
something useful if I was going to be there anyway and
I have been making things out of bronze ever since.
Since then, I have
exhibited my work in a wide variety of settings. My work
has appeared in galleries, arts and craft shows, science
fiction conventions, more than a dozen renaissance fairs,
and for several years I had a shop at Universal Studios
here in Florida. I have also done some work for specialty
retail venues like Cirque du Soleil. Over the years, I
have picked up the usual assortment of ribbons and awards.
Next comes the
part where I bare my soul about the torment and ecstasy
involved in the creation of my ART.<insert ominous
thunder here> The short version is I make the things
I do because I enjoy doing so and the fact that I get
to watch people pick them up and smile is a bonus. I will
leave it at that, because on the off chance I did slip
some "meaning" into a piece when you were not
looking, it is a failure if I have to explain it.
Technically, this
is supposed to be written in the third person, but people
who refer to themselves that way have always worried me.
