The Desert Artist
I
currently reside in arizona with my wife, I own an acre
here, I have 2 dogs, kona and ladydog. Lady is a border
collie and aussie shep, kona is a black lab and sharpei.
The
sage I use is called Apiana White Mountain Sage (also
known as grandfather sage), and it is freely growing in
the wild in parts of California. I take long hikes to
the wilds of california to bring back my perfectly picked
sage - I also offer tobacco to the great spirit before
I pick. I hang them to dry out for a few days in the shade
- then as they become slightly rubbery, I wrap them into
cones and hang to dry for 2 weeks till they get nice and
crispy.
When
a leaf is crushed between the fingers a hearty full aroma
of eucalyptus smell will overtake your senses will cleanse
the nasal palate nicely for wine tasting or for perfume
making, or where anything is needed to clear the senses
from monotony. When this herb is burned as an incense
it provides a nice free burning incense (please when burning
incense always be aware of the dangers involved with the
heat). You should always burn incense in a traditional
abalone shell or on something that will not burn,.. please
also be aware that it only takes a couple leaves of this
incense to fragrance the room, lighting the whole cone
of sage will overwhelm you quickly when indoors!
I
also work with leather and write poetry. I have written
and composed a double sestina, yes a double sestina. For
those of you who aren't aware it is the tour de force
of writing, Ii am so proud of myself for achieving this
goal I set for myself in 3 days. A double sestina consists
of 12 stanzas of 12 lines of 10 syllables, iambic pentameter,
then a six line envoy at the end that conatins all 12
of the words. So it is basically a 150 line poem or 1500
syllables and Iadded the complexity of rhyme as well.
The name of my poem is called Lover's Lodge.
